Stop what you’re doing. Drop those screens, and roll out a plan to take part in Screen-Free Week - May 1st-7th, 2023.
What is Screen-Free Week?
Screen-Free Week is a week for families to play, explore, and rediscover life beyond electronics and screens. Each year during the first week of May, families, schools, and communities around the world drop their screens in exchange for seven days of family, friends, and fun.
How do you participate?
During Screen-Free Week you don’t have to give up your devices the whole time. Just consider setting aside a few hours each day to reconnect with your family and friends, to read a good book, to play with a pet or to enjoy a quiet stroll in the park.
Here are some other great ideas for swapping your screen time:
Screen Time |
Screen Time Swap |
Online, multiplayer gaming | Grab some friends for a round of flag football. |
Online, single player gaming | Challenge one person or all of your family to a game of Twister or a game of cards. |
Movie Night | Movement night: Try a game of flashlight tag or hide-and-seek. |
Scrolling social media | Chat face to face with a friend or write a letter. |
Online grocery shopping | Walk or bike to the local market to pick up ingredients to make your favorite meal together. |
Eating in front of your family’s favorite show | Turn the screen off and have a family meal together at the table. Take turns talking about your day. |

Make a Plan! However you choose to celebrate Screen-Free Week, start by making a plan to set aside some time each day to be screen-free. Remember, reconnecting to a world without screens can be like falling down the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland or crawling through the wardrobe to Narnia. Endless adventures await you!
