Home sickness is a very common occurrence at summer camp, and camp staff are trained and ready to help children in any way they can to have a successful time. However, preparing your child for an amazing summer starts from the moment you decide to send them to camp. Adventure In Science is a partnership between the University of Maryland Extension and AIS Inc. It is a science based hands-on educational program reaching about 330 youth ages 8-14 in Montgomery County. The program is provided at six locations managed by organizational leaders and instructors. Parents and other volunteers help teach an interactive 2-3 hours sessions every Saturday for 18 weeks.

Interviewing can be intimidating and stressful but teaching 4-Hers essential skills in this area will help them be successful. This publication provides youth development professionals with a resource when teaching 4-Hers about interviewing for teen leadership positions, Out of State trip interviews, and employment. Additionally, this publication can be a tool directly provided to 4-H youth who are planning to interview.

The following guidelines will help your 4-H group fulfill its responsibilities for properly handling public funds.

4-H Clubs are open to all youth without regard to race, age, sex, color, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, religion, ancestry, or national origin, marital status, genetic information, or political affiliation, or gender identity and expression.

Financial Nuggets is a six lesson, financial educational program designed for middle school students (grades 5-8) that provides an opportunity for youth to simulate real world, financial experiencesthrough hands on learning activities. Lessons and activities are designed for 45-60 minutes and are aligned with the Maryland Financial Literacy Standards. This curriculum provides an age appropriate introduction to basic ideas such as financial decision-making as well as advanced topics, including investments and insurance. The first lesson, Financial Decisions, focuses on understanding the difference between needs and wants. Next, youth understand the relationship between careers, education and income in Lesson 2. The next lesson, Plan and Manage Money, teaches financial management and budgeting concepts to youth while Lesson 5 builds on this knowledge by exposing the youth to ideas and concepts to explain how wealth is created and built. Finally, Lesson 6 - Manage Risks and Preserve Wealth – exposes youth to risk, managing risk by way of insurance, and other wealth accumulation and preservation strategies.
