It’s official: Maryland SNAP-Ed has released its new storybook, The Secret to an Extraordinary Day. Over 60,000 copies of the book are being distributed to SNAP-Ed partner schools and youth sites. Thousands more will be distributed to summer meals sites, WIC offices, and SNAP Outreach offices. Everyone can join in the fun by accessing The Secret to an Extraordinary Day through the book webpage.
The book is being released in advance of school summer break. Summer can be a wonderful time of year for kids and families. More freedom in the schedule can be a lot of fun. But without the planned activities of the school year, the summer blues can set in pretty quickly.
In the book, the Bland family discovers a secret to beating boredom. No, it’s not turning on the television or playing video games! Through a scavenger hunt to the school yard, to a local park, and along neighborhood sidewalks and trails, the Bland family notices that moving their bodies turns their frowns upside down.
The best part of knowing this secret? It can help your family have fun and feel great all year long–not just in the summer.
On the book webpage, you can download the Extraordinary Adventure Passport, challenging you to complete fun, easy physical activities. Social media posts on Facebook and Instagram will help you along the way, sharing physical activity resources throughout the state of Maryland, reminders to complete the passport challenges, and tips for helping your family get moving.
What are you waiting for? Read the book, and have an Extraordinary Day!
