Introduction

High tunnels, also called hoop houses, are structures that can be assembled outdoors to contain plants and extend their growing season. The top and sides of the high tunnel are comprised of polyethylene and harnesses solar energy to heat the interior of the tunnel, even as the months become colder. As the warm temperature is maintained within the structure the ground the tunnel sits on is kept from getting cold. This allows plants that are cultivated within a plot of soil the tunnel sits on to be grown for longer periods. High tunnels are an environmentally conscience way to get the most out of your gardens throughout the year.
