Veterinary Science Experience
Veterinary Science Experience is a 5-lesson program that provides participants the basic tools and information for those interested in the veterinary science field. Each lesson provides an introduction into basic animal care from small animals to livestock. The lessons can be combined into a day-long veterinary science day or broken up to provide a multi-week program. Educators of all levels can easily adapt each lesson to fit their unique needs.
Veterinary Science Experience - Lesson Introduction
Biosecurity: Your Safety First
Biosecurity is extremely important when working with animals, especially to keep yourself safe. Learn all about personal protective equipment (PPE) by learning how to properly wear and remove PPE. The lesson also identifies techniques in how to properly work with animals when needing to transport them.
First Steps in Taking care of Large Livestock
It may seem nerve wracking when working with large livestock. Learn how to safely approach large livestock through learning about flight zone approaches. Participants will also learn how to safely handle livestock for basic livestock examinations.
Small Animal Handling & Care
Learn proper techniques when working with small animals, specifically with dogs and cats. Participants will learn how to properly examine dogs and cats while performing a basic examination.
Diagnose the Case: First Steps in Establishing Client Relationships
There are many common diseases and parasites that can be diagnosed through an examination. Through this lesson participants will become familiar with common questions they should ask when diagnosing a patient. An activity of diagnose the patient is included to expand on the veterinary client patient relationship.
In Case of Emergency Be Prepared at Home
It’s important to always be prepared for an emergency. Participants will learn about different veterinary medical supplies as they build animal first aid kits to take home.
